Our Values
%20(2)_edited.png)
Our values are represented by this Celtic symbol which, along with our Hummingbird logo, is in the Grenadian colours.
Yellow symbolizes wisdom and the warmth of the sun.
Red represents unity, courage, and vitality.
Green reflects vegetation, agriculture, and the island's natural beauty.

1
The three strands of our ethos
The green central triskelion represents the three strands of the retreat house: a therapeutic space, a creative space, and a spiritual space. These strands flow together as one and continually inform one another.
At the heart of this symbol is the white triangle, symbolising that which is emerging, the ongoing growth and new possibilities that arise as these three strands intertwine.

Our holistic approach
The left yellow trefoil represents body, mind, and spirit, acknowledging that we are physical, psychological, and spiritual beings. We therefore value an holistic approach to wellbeing and personal growth.
We honour the uniqueness and inherent worth of every person and celebrate the diversity of all people. This is reflected in our genuine hospitality and our inclusive, friendly welcome to all guests. We are committed to providing a safe space, supported by clear policies, fair practices and genuine accountability.

Our three main aims
We recognise that everyone is on a journey of personal growth. As a team, we seek to continue learning and developing, while supporting our guests on their own paths. We systematically collect feedback so that we can develop and improve as well as remaining faithful to our purpose as a retreat house.
As a non-profit organisation, we also support community projects so that these aims are lived out beyond the retreat house. We focus our charitable work under the themes of Health, Opportunities, Peace, and the Environment.
4
Our rhythm of life
The lower yellow trefoil represents our rhythm of life which is foundational to all we do. It is based on the rhythm of life of Contemplative Fire, whose values and vision shape the spirituality of the retreat house. This shape represents a balance in life of contemplative stillness, creative learning and compassionate action - or put another way, a balance of being, knowing and doing. These values are rooted in ancient contemplative traditions, recognising the perennial wisdom found in all faith traditions and the spiritual practices of silence, solitude and stillness. We welcome people of all cultures, backgrounds, spiritual journeys, faiths and worldviews, recognising that we can learn from each other and that contemplative silence is a language that we can all share.

Our interrelatedness
The outer woven circle reminds us that we live in the context of three main relationships. The red thread represents our relationship with other people, the green thread represents our relationship with the Earth, and the gold thread represents our relationship with the Divine.
We seek to be mindful of our interconnection with others — to be in good relationship with one another, to honour and respect the Earth, and to remain, as the Grenadian national anthem says, 'ever conscious of God' — or however we name that which is greater than ourselves.
